Growing up isn’t easy, especially for Zach who is rapidly learning how to transition from boyhood into a man, in both the modern world and his ancient culture. Pressures from his loving, but staunch father, the temptations of city life plus the ever present spectre of racism all take their toll. Ultimately Zach must embrace the traditions and knowledge of his ancestors and invoke his inner Warrior.
We have big goals for this Zach’s Ceremony. This film is aimed at all Australians, from young Indigenous people struggling to understand where they belong in the world to non-Indigenous Australians who had never even thought about the beautiful traditions of Indigenous culture – underpinning all of it, a normal family. We want to use the film to inform the design of educational curriculum and programs that young Indigenous people participate in. Ultimately we want young people feeling supported and empowered to explore their culture and identity. Zach’s Ceremony also serves as a platform to encourage people to take initiative and seek out more information about, and engage with, the beautiful living culture of our Indigenous people. We want to know what you think and how you want to join the journey, you’re the most important part of this campaign. Join our mailing list and follow us on social media to stay up to date.
